O, astrologiya mövzusunda yazılmış və bu günədək mühafizə edilərək saxlanılmış ilk əsərlərdən biri hesab olunan və şeir formasında qələmə alınmış "Astronomika" adlı əsərin müəllifidir.[1][2]

Mark Maniliyin şərəfinə Ay səthindəki bir krater onun adı ilə adlandırılmışdır.
Mark Maniliyin doğum yeri, tarixi və ailəsi haqqında etibarlı məlumat mövcud deyildir. Onun şərq mənşəli — yəqin ki, Suriyalı və ya Kiçik Asiyalı olduğu ehtimal edilir. Maniliy, adını daşıdığı Maniliilər nəslindən azad edilmiş bir kölə (azad edilmiş şəxs) olmuşdur.
O, əsasən didaktik poemalar yazır və heksametr ölçüsündən istifadə edirdi. Lakin onun ən məşhur əsəri "Astronomika" hesab olunur. Bu əsərdə Maniliy, astrologiyanın əsas xüsusiyyətlərini müəyyən edən ilk müəlliflərdən biri kimi çıxış edir və onları elmi astronomiya bilikləri ilə uzlaşdırmağa çalışır.
Əsər, dövrünün astronomiya və astrologiya haqqında qabaqcıl baxışlarını əks etdirir və bütün bunlar şeirlə ifadə olunmuş bədii formada təqdim edilir.
