Şüurun idarə olunması (ing. mind control), məcburi inandırma (ing. coercive persuasion), ideoloji emal,[1][2] zehin kontrolu, zehin nəzarəti və ya beyin yuyulması[1][2] (ing. brainwashing, Çin dilində xǐ năo 洗脑) — şəxsi və ya qrup maraqları güdən subyektlərin öz istəklərini digər insanlara sistemli şəkildə, etik olmayan üsullarla qəbul etdirməsi və onları bu işə alışdırması prosesi. Termin insanların düşüncə tərzinə, davranışlarına, emosiyalarına və ya qərarvermə mexanizmlərinə təsir edən, psixoloji və ya qeyri-psixoloji yollarla tətbiq olunan istənilən üsulu ifadə etmək üçün istifadə olunur.[3]
Beyin yuyulması və düşüncə nəzarəti nəzəriyyələri ilk dəfə totalitar rejimlərin müharibə əsirlərinə sistemli şəkildə işgəncə və təbliğat tətbiq etməklə onlara öz ideologiyalarını aşılama prosesini izah etmək məqsədilə formalaşdırılmışdır. Daha sonralar bu nəzəriyyələr, xüsusilə yeni dini hərəkatlara (YDH) yönəlmə kimi daha geniş sosial fenomenləri izah etmək üçün, Marqaret Sinqer də daxil olmaqla bir sıra psixoloqlar tərəfindən genişləndirilmiş və dəyişdirilmişdir.
Üçüncü nəsil nəzəriyyə Ben Zabloçki tərəfindən irəli sürülmüş və əsas diqqətini YDH-lərin və kultların beyin yuyulması üsulları vasitəsilə üzv yığması məsələsinə yönəltmişdir. Yeni dini hərəkatların tətbiq etdiyi beyin yuyulması texnikaları elmi və hüquqi mübahisələrə səbəb olmuşdur.[4]
Oksford ingilis dili lüğəti (ing. Oxford English Dictionary) ingilis dilində "beyin yuma" (ing. brainwashing) termininin ilk qeydə alınmış istifadəsini 7 noyabr 1950-ci ildə Edvard Hanter (ing. Edward Hunter) tərəfindən "Miami News" qəzetində dərc olunmuş məqaləyə aid edir. Hanter Koreya müharibəsi dövründə ABŞ kəşfiyyat orqanları üçün işləmiş jurnalist olmuş, Çin tərəfindən tətbiq edildiyi iddia edilən beyin yuma praktikalarına həsr olunmuş bir sıra kitab və məqalələrin müəllifi kimi tanınmışdır.[5]

Mind control (also referred to as 'brainwashing,' 'coercive persuasion,' 'thought reform,' and the 'systematic manipulation of psychological and social influence') refers to a process in which a group or individual systematically uses unethically manipulative methods to persuade others to conform to the wishes of the manipulator(s), often to the detriment of the person being manipulated.

In September 1950, the The Miami News published an article by Edward Hunter titled '"Brain-Washing" Tactics Force Chinese into Ranks of Communist Party.' It was the first printed use in any language of the term "brainwashing," which quickly became a stock phrase in Cold War headlines. Hunter, a CIA propaganda operator who worked under cover as a journalist, turned out a steady stream of books and articles on the subject.
