Taksonomiya və etimologiya

Yaxın zamana qədər Morelia tracyae, Morelia amesthistina növünün bir hissəsi hesab olunurdu. Əvvəllər, elmi ictimaiyyət bu növün, görünüşdəki böyük müxtəlifliyə və geniş yaşayış yeri diapazonuna baxmayaraq, sadəcə "qeyri-adi yayılma qabiliyyətinə" sahib olduğuna inanırdı.^[2]
