Kembric qoyunu 1964–1979-cu illər arasında Kembric Universitetində Con Ouen və Alun Deviz tərəfindən xüsusi olaraq, məhsuldarlığı artırmaq məqsədi ilə yetişdirilib. Müxtəlif Britaniya qoyun növlərinin dişiləri Fin qoyunlarının qoçları ilə cütləşdirilib. Bu dişilər əsasən "Klun Forest" növündən olsa da, "Border Leicester", "Hill Radnor", "Kerry Hill", "Llanwenog", "Lleyn" və "Ryeland" növləri də istifadə edilib. 1969-cu ildə qoyun sürüsünün qeydiyyat kitabı tərtib edilib və 1979-cu ilə qədər bu növ tam formalaşıb.[1]
