Növün qəbul edilmiş adı uzun müddət "Helix aspersa" hesab edilirdi, bu da Roma ilbizi Helix pomatia kimi "Helix" cinsinə aid idi. Lakin 1990-cı ildən bəri bir sıra nəşrlərdə əvəzinə əvvəllər Helix-in yarımcinsləri hesab edilən müxtəlif cinslərə daxil edilmişdir.[1] Belə bir cins "Cornu"-dur, bu cins əgər növ "Helix aperta" kimi tanınan növlərlə eyni cinsdə hesab edilirsə, uyğundur.[2][3] O zaman növün adı "Cornu aspersum" olardı.[4][5][6] Əvvəllər "Cornu"-nun etibarlı bir cins adı olub-olmadığı mübahisəli idi , lakin 2015-ci ildə qərar verildi ki, bu, etibarlıdır.[7] Bu qərara qədər İtalyan tədqiqat qrupları və digərləri "Cantareus" cins adından istifadə edirdilər.[8][9][10][11]
