Feuillets d'El-Djezaïr 1 (1): 71–82.: "Bab-el-Dzezira (the gate of the Island), near the Admiralty, whose pediment presented an escutcheon - the work of some slave - where the Seal of Solomon was depicted, under a crown surmounted by a crescent . To this crest were added flags, lions, cannons, ships. This representation was considered to express the ancient arms of Algiers. The new weapons date from 1862".
  • (ingilis) (1986) , Flag Research Center. : "One Dey, however, at least had a coat of arms: these still survive sculptured on the wall of a building in Algiers. Though now whitewashed over, the colours are on record. The arms consisted of a green shield, bearing the interlacing triangles known as the seal of Solomon, in gold, with a silver crescent in the centre. The whole had a red border and was surmounted by a sort of crown. It was perhaps these arms which led a modern French writer to speak rather inaccurately of the Deys as having a "green standard with a golden crescent".
