| İzah | We are now in the haloed compound in the Tran Quoc temple grounds, the enclosed courtyard containing several of those pagodas or chortens. And remember that tall, red pagoda you saw from the entrance to the Tran Quoc comples? (see earlier photos?)m Well, the red structure with the Buddha images you see to the right at the far end is the base of that tall pagoda. This pagoda is one of the main parts of the Trấn Quốc Temple for it holds the important monk's ashes. The rest of the pagodas of course hold the ashes of other monks, other than the main monk of course. Most of the pagodas here were made in the 17th century but the tallest pagoda (the red one) was re-built in 2004. The pagodas are red because in Chinese and Vietnamese culture red symbolizes luck and prosperity. (Hanoi, Vietnam, Oct./ Nov. 2016) |
