English: Transcription from the rock inscription at mount Sela, reads "Ana ʿAlī bn Abū Ṭ-l-b" meaning "I [am] Ali son of Abū [sic] Ṭ-l-b (Talib)" first published in M. Hamidullah, Some Arabic Inscriptions Of Medinah Of The Early Years Of Hijrah, Islamic Culture, 1939, Volume XIII, p. 436–437 where Hamidullah addresses an apparent grammatical mistake contained in the phrase "Abū Ṭ-l-b " in a longer discussion of inscriptions he claims belong to various Islamic religious figures such as ʿUmar, and Abū Bakr. M. Hamidullah believes this inscription made seemingly by the same person who wrote the name Muḥammad below, as well as other names above, to have been made by soldiers at the Battle of Khandaq. These identifications including those of signatures belonging to ʿUmar, and Abū Bakr are claimed to be incorrect by G. C.
