Avec titre d'évêché et de Cité. Sa citadelle est la meilleure d'Italie. Elle a souffert plusieurs siège et a été la pierre d'achoppement des espagnols en Italie. Le duc d eMantoue y avait garnison depuis 1652 la céda au Roi le 30 septembre 1682.
