Curator's comments
Inscribed with the name of the sitter, this portrait depicts Abdullah Khan in a private, domestic role rather than as the conqueror of Herat and Khurasan and ruler of Transoxiana. Abdullah Khan's bulbous turban and ample belly echo the rounded forms of the melons.
