Alvand Beg, Aq Qoyunlu prince. He was Governor of Shiraz from 1478 to 1497, succeeding his uncle Sultan Khalil Mirza. After 1497, Shiraz then came under the control of Sultan Murad. Alvand Beg and Murad made peace in Abhar, as a result of which Diyarbakir (Eastern Anatolia) and Azerbaijan went to Alvand Beg, while Lower Mesopotamia, Persian Iraq, and Fars remained under Sultan Murad. He was a contender for the Aq Qoyunlu throne between 1497 and 1504/5, until being vanquished by the Safavids.

  • "Shah Ismail, with the support of such devoted followers occupied, within a very short span of time, the country of Shirwan upto Baku port alongwith some parts of Armenia, took Azarbayjan from Alvand Beg Bayandari, a Turk of Aq-quyunlu clan, ascended the throne at Tabriz, declared Shiism as the religion of state in spite of the fact that a majority of the people of that city followed the Sunni sect. They were forced to convert to Shiism." Mughal Iranian Relations, p.194
