Sheikh Safi complex (Persian: ارامگاه شيخ صفیالدین اردبیلی) is a historical-religious architectural complex located in Ardabil, Iran. The complex was formed around the complex built on the tomb of Safiaddin, the sheikh of the Safaviya Sufi order. The Shahs from the Safavid dynasty attached great importance to the complex and encouraged its expansion and enrichment. During the reign of Shah Ismail Khatai, the facade of Sheikh Safi's mausoleum (later the shah himself was buried in this mausoleum) was decorated with exquisite tile work. During the reign of his son Tahmasib I, a magnificent architectural monument mosque was built in memory of Sheikh Safi. During the reign of Shah Abbas I, the Chinikhana building was added to the complex. The building, where exquisite porcelain samples are collected and exhibited, housed a large library and was also used for holding official meetings during the reign of Abbas I. In one of the courtyards of the complex, the martyrs of the Battle of Chaldiran were buried (many of those graves were destroyed during the reign of the Pahlavis).
