O, daha çox erkən müasir dövrün fars və İslam incəsənəti ilə bağlı tədqiqatları ilə tanınır. O, Səfəvilər sülaləsinin incəsənəti və memarlığı haqqında çoxsaylı tədqiqatların müəllifidir.[2] Onun tədqiqatı multidissiplinar yanaşmanı ehtiva edir və urbanizm,[3] imperiya araşdırmaları, transkultural vizuallıq və ekzotizm anlayışları kimi mövzuları tədqiq edir.[4]
Babayi Harvard Universitetinin Sakler Muzeyində (2010), Miçiqan Universitetində İncəsənət Muzeyində (tərtibat işi, 2002–2006) və Smit Kolleci İncəsənət Muzeyində (1998) sərgilər üzərində işləmişdir.[5]
1979-cu ildən 2013-cü ilə qədər ABŞ-da, 2013-cü ildən sonra isə Londonda yaşamışdır. Londonda olarkən fəaliyyətini davam etdirdiyi Kurtland İncəsənət İnstitutunda Dr. Endryu V.Melonun İran və İslam incəsənəti üzrə oxucusu olmuşdur.
