In thetumour in its abdomen, an imperfectly developed fa?tus wasfound, it being almost covered with sebaceous matter. I I30 THE CAUSES OF ABORTION. Mr Higliuron, in 1814, opened the body of a boy, set. fifteenyears. It contained the body of an imperfectly developed foetus. M. de Saint Donat, in 1733, described a case where a foetuswas found in the scrotum of a man. Velpeau, in 1840, re-moved the rudiments of a foetus from a mans right testicle.Barnes describes a similar condition. A pullet, half-bred be-tween a dorking and cochin, laid double eggs. The inner shellwas a red colour, while the outer shell was a dull, chalky white.Two yolks inside one shell may frequently be seen, but it is rareto meet two perfect eggs, one withm the other. He adds, there can be no doubt but that the tumour origi-nated in an ovum which had been impregnated but had not arrivedat maturity. This blighted ovum, at an early stage of its develop-ment, had become attached to the foetus, of which it subsequentlyformed a part, increasing in size with the foetus, and after birthgrowing in proportion to the infant.
