| Transcript | Lowland. Heligoland, a small island near the mouth of the Elbe, was a British possession from 1807 to 1890, when it was ceded to Germany. It is much frequented in the summer by visitors. The Lowland shown in the picture is connected with the higher part of the island by a lift and steps cut out of the cliffs. |
