English: If you orient the pie so the singleton clove is in the upper left, you should have thinner (0.5 inch) strips of crust running horizontally and slightly wider (0.75 inch) strips running vertically. The lattice crossings encode a sequence of bits: a thin strip on top is 1, a wide strip on top is 0. In retrospect, the inverse would probably have been a more logical encoding, but it is what it is.

Reading them out left-to-right, top-to-bottom (row-major order) you should get:

The decimal input was the first 100 digits of pi (3.1415926535897932384626433832795028841971693993751058209749445923078164062862089986280348253421170679) as returned by https://math.tools/numbers/pi/100.

Unlike the mathematical pi, a real pie is a physical construct made of pastry dough, fruit and other edible but somewhat variable ingredients. This explains the unsatisfying asymmetry in the layout of the bits and the arbitrariness of the 97 bit precision. A possible future enhancement would be adding a generous dash of Reed–Solomon, allowing a slice to be snarfed by an impatient child without anybody being the wiser.
