L'ile de la Révolution d'Octobre, est la plus grande des iles de l’archipel russe de la terre du Nord. La moitie de l'ile est couverte de glaciers s’étirant jusqu’à la mer, et abrite cinq calottes glaciaires.

Dans les zones libres de glace, une gestation désertique ou de toundra existe.

La Terre du Nord ne fut répertorie qu'en 1913 et cartographiée en 1933, étant ainsi le dernier archipel au monde a être découvert.
