English: Illustration shows a retrospective from the extant population backward in time though a population bottleneck. During the period of highest exclusion, alleles (and their derivatives) that entered the bottle neck with the fixed allele (and its derivatives) are excluded. As a result estimating the length of the bottleneck or population size in the bottleneck in excess of the TMRCA is restricted to the age of the TMRCA. |
