English: The symbol at the center of the Flag of America.
The Flag of America is a symbolic representation of the Americas. Its purpose is to support the unity of all Americans in their struggle towards ever greater collaboration and political integration. SymbolismTwenty gold stars create a symbol of American unity, harmony and solidarity. The stars are arranged to resemble the shape of the Americas as well as a chain link. The chain link is "broken and unfinished" to represent the power of social movements in the Americas as well as the potential of a unified America. The stars and their number celebrate the systems of astronomy and mathematics of Indigenous peoples of the Americas. These include the advanced calendar systems developed throughout the Americas; the base-20 numeral systems of many peoples including the Mayans, Aztecs, Inuit, Yupik and Muisca; and the innovative arithmetic tools used like those of the Inca. Colors#FFCF00 for the gold and #860000 for the red. |
