Hello, I recently created maps of the Suba, Fontibón, and Engativá districts. I based them on maps from the Military Geographic and Cadastral Institute (1940). But it's asking me to indicate where I base my data from, and I don't know how to do so. Can you explain this to me?
Hi Jeff, first of all, thank you for answering my question. I haven't been able to get much help with that, But now they put the Template:No permission since, Which according to the Bogotá digital library are copyright free (I'll add the link at the end), how is the process here? PatojuanC (talk) 14:30, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
The last question, regarding coats of arms, flags, and anthems, I have to show you right now that the Fontibón coat of arms was copyright-free. The administration there told me that it was.But they told me orally, right now I'm going to ask if they give me a certificate for that, but then how do I upload it or what do I do? PatojuanC (talk) 14:47, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have a question about the rights. I used a KMZ map made by the National University of Colombia, at the map library headquarters. According to the website, they used these maps:
Bogotá (a). Plate 227-IV-D. 1949;
Bogotá (b). Plate 228-III-C. 1949;
Bogotá (c). Plate 246-II-B. 1946;
Bogotá (d). Plate 247-I-A. 1946;
Usaquén. Plate 228-III-A. 1946;
Soacha. Plate 246-II-A. 1949;
Soacha. Plate 246-II-C. 1949;
Usme. Plate 246-II-D. 1949;
Engativá. Plate 227-IV- B. 1949;
Chipaque. Plate 247-I-C. 1949;
However, I haven't been able to find any information on the templates (their copyrights). I could only find one of them:
I've already contacted the Military Geographic and Cadastral Institute, who created them, but I still haven't heard back, and I doubt I'll get a response before Friday (they placed a limit on images that day). What should I do about this? PatojuanC (talk) 02:15, 25 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Understood, although my idea is that I can do it directly (it would be a gratification and I will be able to learn how to message inskcape) But I will have to base myself on an image from the internet to develop and vectorize it. PatojuanC (talk) 19:50, 20 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
And if they already recommended the workshop to me for the coats of arms and maps, so that they can advise me on the development of those PatojuanC (talk) 19:48, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi!
I see Wikimedia Commons are somehow lacking in terms of reading nooks pictures - there is one from early 20th century, a drawing. To be honest, I would like to write an article about them for English Wikipedia. When looking for a pictures online with the right kind of license, I found some made by AI. Would it be okay to upload them here? I do not know their prompts or AI program that generated them, just their online links.
@Loumalsace: Bonjour, L'astérisque s'affiche normalement. -- Asclepias (talk) 13:49, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have been trying to update colouring scheme for File:Irmán-irmá-irmao idioma galego.png (edit: using "Upload a new version of this file" link) with another PNG but I was kept being asked for a license, which is absurd, cause it must be the same before CC4ShAlike. I feel dumb, because I did this twice in the past, as it can be seen in the file history, I don't remember having passed this step and I can't find this voted or mentioned anywhere. ※Sobreira ◣◥ 〒 @「parlez」 12:49, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

The Wiktionary defines this word as "One of the two long pieces of wood, extending before a vehicle, between which a horse is hitched; a shaft." This makes perfect sense, but because we barely see horses in the First World anymore, it could use a visual aid. Shushimnotrealstooge (talk) 17:54, 22 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Seen that they are already red (and the body of the cart green), I do not think that the hassle is worth it. Simply use text in the image legend, something like: "The thills are the red bars to the left of the wheel". But you're technically fine to make and upload a derivative of the image, if you want. There's nothing in our rules or licenses that forbid you in performing such a task. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 00:34, 23 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
I'm trying to nominate images for QI designation, but I'm having (what I think are) technical issues.
Using the suggested QI nomination syntax
If I use the suggested nomination syntax: File:ImageNameHere.jpg|{{/Nomination|Very short description --~~~~ |}}
e.g., File:20240506 tree swallow keeney cove PD203406.jpg|{{/Nomination|Tree Swallow, resting. Keeney Cove. Glastonbury, CT USA --~~~~ |}}
and I submit, my signature does not show up via the 4-tildes expansion ~~~~
This doesn't appear to be a javascript issue because I can get the ~~~~ signature to work on the Sandbox.
I've disabled all other gadgets and disabled all browser extensions (also tried different browsers), but nothing has fixed the "no-tildes expansion on the QI nom page" issue.
Using the QINominator Gadget
If I use the QINominator gadget, there's supposed to be a green bar that shows up when you edit the source of the QI nomination page.
Again, I've disabled all other gadgets and disabled all browser extensions, but nothing has fixed the "no green bar" issue.
Hard coding my QI nominations
I've previously resorted to hard-coding my QI nominations, but that's fraught with issues because I've made syntax errors in my submissions and 1) I'm not sure what the proper procedure is for correcting such errors and 2) the whole process has made me gun-shy.
Advice?
Any suggestions on how to find a fix for either of the two standard approaches for nomination? Is there some non-obvious syntax issue or an improper preference that I've set incorrectly?
It's weird that the tilde-signature works for you here, but not there. Maybe try using another device to test and see if the problem still exists. You can also try testing it with your current device but with another account or without logging in (you should preview the result to test rather than submitting it). Then, you should know if the problem is related to your account or your device.
Side note, if somehow the problem can't be fixed, then I suggest maybe it will be easier to first edit in your userspace/sandbox, then transfer the code (with the signature expanded) to the QI nom page.
@Pdanese I did some testing, if I turn off JavaScript for my browser, the tilde expansion still works for me in the sandbox and here, but it will not work in the QI nom page. So it is most likely a JavaScript issue. Tvpuppy (talk) 23:24, 25 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the suggestions, especially. They're excellent (especially the one about working in the sandbox and transferring over).
I thought it might be a javascript issue (in fact I'm sure it is some weirdness w/ javascript), but I don't have a javascript blocker on my browser--and I disabled every extension that I *do* have, so I'm perplexed.

A new user under the Growth:Mentor scheme has approached me on my en.wiki talk page, saying that they cannot log onto to Commons to upload images, because their IP range is long-term blocked. Suggestions on what they can do? AllyD (talk) 20:13, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
They have given me the photo (3184px x 4242px) and 72 dpi but I'm not sure where I should upload it. Since this person is deceased I was thinking of going with the fair-use option. Do you think that's my best choice? If yes, are there any requirements for the size, dpi, etc. of the photo? If not, please advise me where I should upload this photo (Wikipedia vs. Wikimedia Commons) and any details about the licensing. This is my first time uploading a photo, so I'd appreciate any help / advice you can offer.
The requirement is a free licence, see COM:Licensing. Requirements for size and DPI (the latter is freely configurable, anyway, 72DPI only tells a displaying machine to put 72 dots per inch on a paper, that's irrelevant for digital files) are non-existent. Fair use is not an option here. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 21:35, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Mybestwords: As a photo by Yousuf Karsh, it is probably not free for Commons. You can try to upload it to Wikipedia under the non-free content tolerance practice. (Strictly, it might not be "fair use", because it would not be used in the context of a commented study of the photographic work of Karsh. "Fair use" makes sense only in relation to what is copyrighted. And what is copyrighted in this image is the photographic work of Karsh, not the face of JLL Sr. which is not copyrighted. But it might be "non-free content" tolerated in practice on Wikipedia in the article about the subject.) In the description page of the file on Wikipedia, you can use a non-free use rationale similar to the one currently used for the photo of JLL Jr., with necessary modifications about source, author, etc. Speaking of which, the photo of JLL Jr. should probably be deleted from Wikipedia for currently not meeting the condition even for "non-free content", unless someone can obtain a free license or find publication circumstances that would make it public domain. -- Asclepias (talk) 22:30, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Mybestwords and Asclepias: the current photo in the article is used on a fair-use basis, and this is a better photo, so it would probably be an acceptable substitute on the same basis, as long as we can attribute it correctly. You'd probably need to drop it to about 10% of that resolution for fair-use on en-wiki.
@Mybestwords: Before you upload a non-free photo, you should try to find public domain photos of the subject. Given the biography of the subject, businessperson, his work for the United States governement, involvement in politics, there are good chances that public domain photos may exist. Even under the non-free content practice, a non-free photo cannot be uploaded to Wikipedia if a free photo can be found. It can be a government photo or a photo published in a newspaper, without copyright notice or renewal, or for example a wedding photo published before 1930. -- Asclepias (talk) 00:15, 25 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Im pretty new to Wikipedia, and im curious if im able to upload files for the Indiana Adjutant General, Indiana Department of Health, and Indiana Department of Administration? Leanxishe (talk) 04:42, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Leanxishe: Hi, and welcome. In short, probably not, unless they are old enough or you can get permission (see COM:HIRTLE). I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a png image as a new user. Such uploads of png images are not allowed at all. You indicated it's your own work when uploading, rather than the work of someone in Indiana's government. Usually when someone uploads a png image, it's a copyright violation taken from the web. The actual copyright holder needs to license it on their official website or social media or send permission via VRT. Also, any png image will look fuzzy when scaled down (due to design decisions discussed in phab:T192744) or jaggy when scaled up, so they may want to upload an svg or jpg version, too. If you can't get a compliant license, the file may still be uploaded to English Wikipedia in compliance with en:WP:F because we don't allow Fair Use here. If you use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid filter 153. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 04:59, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

You might or might not have read about the release of the first images from the Vera C. Rubin telescope this week. Some of these images have been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons as they have a CC BY 4.0 licence (link below to the Media Use Policy). One of the available releases is an awe-inspiring video showing an image nicknamed the Cosmic Treasure Chest which zooms in and out of what is a very large image at source. The video, which is 57 seconds long is under a CC BY 4.0 licence but has a size of 799 MB. I thought about trying to upload the video file but it seemed too large and I couldn't download it anyway (link below). I got round this by lashing together a picture and link to the file which is available on the WP article page and seems to have stuck for 24 hours.
So the very simple question is can someone from Wiki Commons admin or similar transfer the available video file to Commons? Is the file too large - it is certainly in the public interest and could then be linked to easily in any article in which it is useful (in any langauge). After watching the video, you could see its relevance.
Thankyou for your advice. To sort this I used the 10 MB .mp4 preview file which I saved from the website and then converted to a .webm using FreeConvert. I had tried various methods of downloading the full size video but without success. The preview video and converted file (9 MB) might not be as good a quality (HD 720p) as the full download but it will do the job. Perhaps someone can download and convert the full video at some point but I was not able to do this using my broadband connection. The CC-BY-4.0 licence should be OK. /wiki/File:The_Cosmic_Treasure_Chest_(Video-EN).webm. @Tvpuppy: Thanks. I couldn't even get a working link to the original 760MB mp4. I anticipate using {{G7}} on mine when the VP9 1080P transcode of yours is complete, but I will entertain reasonable requests not to. — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 18:05, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
OK great for uploading a webm of the original file. When I tried to download it would stop half way through 'due to network error'. So the compromise of using the preview worked OK and might be more smartphone-friendly. The full size webm upload looks very good, although I am confused somewhat by which version is which. I'll make the link in the WP article later today, though this will likely leave the screenshot image of the title page redundant, but I guess it should be kept for reference and look back.Richard Nowell (talk)
The name is wrong and the pictures are not right to be used in this way to spread lies about this person, very bad for the person who is not alive. Remove the information you posted immediately under the made-up name Maloosak because it is not her real name.
These images falsely present a deceased person using a name ("Maloosak")
That's not her name and it's wrong not to write the actor's name correctly, misleading information. The person did have a career as an actress, but under a different real name. The materials incorrectly imply a history and identity that are fabricated. This is misleading, disrespectful, and harmful to the memory of the individual and her surviving family. These false connections only started appearing decades after her death.
Please remove this immediately all pictures of Maloosak! Abuse of pictures of a person who is not called that with the name Maloosak but someone wrote it that way and you used the wrong name of the person posted on your service! Since the person is not alive, he cannot defend himself. Arken-B (talk) 10:15, 26 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
The Real Maloosak
Born in 1974.
A currently active artist.
Her legal, registered name is Maloosak.
Her images are authentic and may remain online.
The Older Woman
Was an actress in Iran during the 1970s.
She was not named "Maloosak"
She passed away, before the real Maloosak was even born.
Since around 2020, someone has started uploading and spreading images of the deceased woman under the false name "Maloosak" – likely in an attempt to cause confusion and exploit the real artist Maloosak.
This is misleading, harmful, and entirely unprofessional.
Any images and content where the deceased woman is incorrectly labeled or referred to as "Maloosak" should be removed from:
Wikimedia Commons, Picryl, GetArchive
Any other platforms spreading this misinformation-should be removed- Many thanks in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arken-B (talk • contribs) 23:14, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Talking to you -To Jeff G and @Rimshot: Maloosak (actress) is a fictional or incorrect name. There are no verifiedtyder that that is her namesources or documentation . That’s precisely the issue – false information is being spread using a name that doesn’t belong to her. This is frivolous to post pictures of someone without to have more facts about the person and it spreads incorrect information about the person who posted the picture/ pictures of the dead actor and been dead for over 50 years.
Talking now -To Jeff G and @Rimshot:Yes I have replied Tvpuppy to Jeff G and rimshot, I am a freelance journalist and have looked into this matter. There is no reliable information or verified images online regarding this actor, who is being confused with the real Maloosak, who is still alive. They did not work during the same period, but efforts have been made online to make it seem that way by mixing up photos and information about the living Maloosak with the deceased actor, who only worked within the country Iran and was an actor. I think you should stop spreading images and information that are not accurate. You should also review what rights you have before using material found online or someone posting images and information incorrectly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arken-B (talk • contribs) 10:49, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Arken-B: you still have not answered the question of what was the actress's real name, and where you have at least one solid citation for that. Till you do that, all we have is what we had in your first post: one person saying the current state of things is wrong. Two people can have the same name, so the fact that they are two different people is not to the point. - Jmabel ! talk18:24, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Talking to you -To: Jmabel, Jeff G and @Rimshot: The problem here is not that two different people could have the same name. The issue is that there is no credible or original source that ever identified the deceased actress from the 1970s as being named That name has only appeared many decades later, with no historical or legal evidence to support it.
I am not trying to merge or confuse identities – I am trying to prevent confusion caused by a false retroactive labeling. This creates identity confusion with the real, currently living artist Maloosak, who was born in 1974 and has carried this name legally and publicly for decades.
There is also a growing pattern of this mix-up being intentionally exploited, and it's misleading the public, erasing the living person's identity, and falsely attaching a fabricated identity to a deceased person.
Unless, this labeling should be considered factually incorrect and misleading.
I kindly ask you to correct the captioning and remove references that wrongly associate the name "Maloosak" with the deceased woman. The burden of proof should be on those who added the name to begin with. The actor who is dead was not alive when Maloosak who is alive was born. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Arken-B (talk • contribs) 10:00, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Arken-B Do you really have that much trouble stringing four tildes together or pinging me when you are writing to me? Please sign your work. What name did Maloosak use before registering as Maloosak? How do you know all this? — 🇺🇦Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:42, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Clearly this actress exists and has a name, but it seems Arken-B doesn’t know her name. So I just went ahead and look for what her name was in credit scenes for movies she was in.
According to her IMDb page [3], she was in the movie “The Newly-wed Bride” (1977) [4]. Fortunately, the full movie is available on YouTube [5], and at 3m50s you can see the name “ملوسک” on the credit, which matches her name in fa:ملوسک (which is pronounced similar to “Maloosak”).
Whether this was her official English name or not, since most online sources commonly refer to her as “Maloosak”, I think this category is correctly named.

I have two related questions.
I've uploaded scans of almost all the pages of the Songbook of Zaghere van Male. There was an existing category, Chansonnier de Zeghere van Male, so I used that. But Commons:Categories says that category names should generally be in English. As far as I can tell, "Songbook of Zaghere van Male" is the usual English name; should I ask for the category to be renamed?
Secondly: at present, the gallery page Songbook of Zeghere van Male contains all the thumbnails, because its source is the input to the scripts I wrote to do the upload. This seemed like a good idea at the time, but the page now contains over a thousand thumbnails and takes ages to load. Should I replace it with a sort of "best of" page? I'll soon be uploading the cropped illuminated letters, so those will belong on there too. Marnanel (talk) 15:02, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Please read and understand COM:Licensing and COM:Project scope. The first link describes what prerequisites exist for imagery uploads. The second link says what kind of media is acceptable for Commons. Please also observe COM:What Commons is not. In short: "uploading" a biography is most likely not something you should do on Commons, we aren't a social network like LinkedIn or Xing. Regards, Grand-Duc (talk) 18:18, 27 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I don't think we have a single agreed-upon way of doing this. The two things I've seen are:

Hello. I would like to ask if it's possible for you to spare some time to check whether File:240902 Kim Hye Yoon (김혜윤).png, File:240925 Kim Hye-yoon (김혜윤).png, File:240604 Kim Hye yoon(김혜윤).png, File:240608 Kim Hye Yoon (김혜윤).png and File:240902 Kim Hye-Yoon (김혜윤).png are AI upscaled. I'm still a pretty new user so there might be some disagreement if I were to point it out. Resurehtonatsuj (talk) 18:04, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
They may have been cleaned up (AI or otherwise) (complexion seems impossibly smooth, and they seem cleaner than any still I can find in that video) but they are awfully low-res for any upscaling to have been involved. - Jmabel ! talk19:02, 28 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
en.wiki has specifically had a discussion about AI-upscaled Korean celebrity photos before, but I don't have it to hand. These seem to be exactly the same sort of upscaling, you can see in File:240902 Kim Hye Yoon (김혜윤).png for example how the face and nearby areas are upscaled but other areas aren't as the definition of the hair changes. CMD (talk) 14:33, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
en-wiki questions really should be asked on en-wiki, but I don't think anything AI-based is acceptable there to represent anything in the real world. - Jmabel ! talk02:03, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
I encountered another editor a month later uploading the same kind of YouTube-captured content of Korean musicians and insisting very strongly that it cannot possibly have been AI upscaled: Commons talk:AI-generated media#Adobe Tools' use of AI upscaling. I don't really know what to make of it. Both seemed unwilling to discuss in enough detail whether it might have been an automatic setting in their export software. Hi! I create articles about popular Filipino movies but can't seem to understand how to properly attach the movie poster. All other movie/series articles I see on Wikipedia have posters in them. How to proceed? Pinayprideful (talk) 02:42, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Some projects, like English Wikipedia, allow fair use media. Such files are uploaded locally and you need to dig into particular project rules to do that properly. EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:13, 29 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

Question:
Can I add a photo to my wikipedia site if I mention the name of the photographer in the photo text?
The photo is fro 1960 Snekkersten (talk) 06:27, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
1) It is not clear what "my wikipedia site" refers to. You are asking the question on Wikimedia Commons. 2) Here on Wikimedia Commons, only photos explicitly free licensed by the photographers, or out of legal copyright, are allowed. See Commons:License and Commons:First steps. (So your question is not clear, but the likely answer is "probably not" unless you can show the original photo is actually free licensed.) -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 14:50, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

I want to write a new article about the YouTuber MAKiT, and I have a question about copyright. Am I right, when I upload the images on Upload Wizard, toggling the written consent, they shouldn't get taken down? Because I uploaded an image and it got taken down, although the owner of the image wrote an email to the Wikipedia mail, only about 12 hours after the upload. How should I do it, so it doesn't get taken down? I thought it would be you can upload it, and when within 30 days, the mail is written with the consent, it stays online, and if not, it gets taken down. Adrian Siebenrock (talk) 15:40, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Adrian Siebenrock: a lot of that isn't very clear, especially since you don't mention a particular file and you have several deleted files. Looking more or less randomly at one of these, File:MAKiT.jpg, you did not indicate any license at all, nor did you indicate that permission was pending. Also, not clear what you mean by "the Wikipedia mail". Have you read Commons:Uploading works by a third party (especially the latter portions)? It looks like you skipped at least two steps that are spelled out there, maybe more. - Jmabel ! talk18:31, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, with the File:MAKiT.gpg I did it wrong, because I wasn't sure how to do it. There my question is, if I can reupload it with the right license or can I update it? Then I uploaded the File:Thnickles.jpg and toggled the thing, where the original creator confirms, that I may use his image. With the Wikipedia mail I mean the mail the original owner of the image has to write and confirm he has given me the license. Did I do it correctly? Because the owner of File:Thnickles.jpg has written and confirmed my use and it still got taken down or at least reported Adrian Siebenrock (talk) 20:49, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Adrian Siebenrock: Don't re-upload a file, start an undeletion request. Though, in this case, assuming you still have a copy of the photo (or if it is elsewhere on line), it might be simpler to have the copyright-holder just attach/reference that when they write to the VRT, and then get it undeleted once their process is complete.
For File:Thnickles.jpg, (1) it is not obvious to me that this is in scope, but presuming it is you still need to indicate what is the (anticipated) license; also, you need to add categories.
I'm not sure whether you reference to giving you a license is just loose speaking or an error. They need to grant a sufficiently free license as described at COM:L.

I am making a draft for Pediculus schaeffi (A species of lice that lives on Chimpanzees and Bonobos), and I found a picture from a website and I don't know if I can use it. I have found it on this link I will provide and I don't know if I would be able to upload it to here. https://phthiraptera.myspecies.info/taxonomy/term/23975/media (I couldn't get the link system to work) Kolton cats (talk) 19:35, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello and welcome @Kolton cats. I’m not sure which specific image you wanted to upload here, but I have checked the file description of all 12 images on the link you provided, and they are all licensed under {{CC-BY-4.0}}. This means they should be fine to be uploaded here. Just make sure to attribute the author properly, which are provided in the file description of each image at the website. i upload this image from flikr after uploading it is nominated for for deletion by bot for no lisence then I add {flickrreview} template then lisence added by flikrbot. Now it is nominated for deletion. I think there is not reason to delete this quality image. Mr.work-shy (talk) 19:37, 30 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Nearly everything you find on the internet is copyrighted, usually unless 1) it is really old, or 2) there is a noticing saying that it's been released under a free license. GMGtalk12:34, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
And at the risk of being pedantic, licensed content is also copyrighted. When I offer a license for my work, it remains copyrighted. Someone who uses it without conforming to the terms of the license is making exactly as much of a copyright violation as if the license did not exist. - Jmabel ! talk19:27, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. Recently, the Smithsonian Institution seems to have made some images available as high-quality TIFF files rather than lower-quality JPEGs. In my specific case, it's 3768x2756 versus 1200×878. I want to upgrade the image I uploaded previously, but Commons won't let me because of the conflicting filetype. The Smithsonian does offer a JPEG download, but when these are among the very few images of this species we can use, I'd prefer not to have the quality loss. Is there any way to accomplish this upgrade other than a manual near-duplicate upload and a redirect from the original? Thanks! TheTechnician27(Talk page)04:05, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Do you mean in terms of usage by Commons and other projects? You can't overwrite a jpg with a tiff file so it's either convert it to jpg or upload the tiff as a separate file. Abzeronow (talk) 04:24, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I recently edited a photo of an image from commons to remove under exposure and further improvements. How do I have to upload the image to now? I think it would be better not to replace the image as the changes are not insignificant and I also don't want to force all the wiki communities to use this version. The image originally came from flickr. Kind regards Squawk7700 (talk) 19:48, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

An article I'm writing is about a musical currently running on the west end - most other shows of a similar status use previous posters from older productions of the show, e.g. the SIX page using a poster from 2019. if I were to use a poster from the 2019 production of this show, would it also be allowed? Do I need express permission from the showrunners? I'm confused on the copyright after trying to make sense of it. There's a lot to read through and it's honestly very overwhelming. Snekjoy (talk) 23:03, 1 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hi [[User:Snekjoy],
Licensing can sometimes be hard to analyze, and depends on lots of details about each individual item. And also different wikimedia/wikipedia sites have different restrictions. For your example, I think you're talking about the poster at the en:Six_(musical) article, which is actually not hosted on commons because it does not have an "open license". However, enwiki does allow a specific "fair use" exception, where an image can be used without permission in certain circumstances, and that image is hosted on enwiki for that purpose. In general, these sorts of posters would not have an open license and therefore would not be hosted on commons, but could be hosted indiviually (and used locally) on those speciic wikipedia sites that allow fair-use. Hi, I have a question. I recently found the "Insignia" template. I'd like to ask how it works and what the requirements are for using it. I'm going to upload several flags and coats of arms. Therefore, I want to know how to use it to avoid problems. PatojuanC (talk) 04:04, 2 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Please why can't I upload PDF after I provide every thing you ask
