"Carpococcyx radiceus" ilk dəfə 1832-ci ildə holland zooloqu Konrad Yakob Temmink tərəfindən "Calobates radiceus" adı ilə təsvir edilmişdir. Təsvir Kalimantanın Pontianak rayonundan olan bir dişi nümunə əsasında hazırlanmışdır.[4] 1840-cı ildə Corc Robert Qrey onu yeni bir cins olan "Carpococcyx"in tipik növü kimi təyin etdi, çünki "Calobates" cinsi "Calobata" milçək cinsi ilə oxşar idi.[5] Bundan əlavə, "Calobates" cinsi alman təbiətşünası İohann Yakob Kaup tərəfindən, 1829-cu ildə yaradılmışdır və bu ad artıq istifadə edilirdi.[6][7] Xüsusi ad olan "radiceus" ya Neo-Latınca "radius" (çubuq və ya dəstək) və ya "radicis" (təməl) sözündən gəlir.[8] Bu adın "radiatus" və ya "radiosus" sözlərinin səhvi olduğu düşünülür, çünki Temmink öz yazılarında bu növü həmin adlarla qeyd etmişdir. Lakin orijinal təsvir adın dəyişdirilməsi üçün kifayət qədər sübut təqdim etmir. Buna baxmayaraq, bəzi mütəxəssislər "radiatus" xüsusi epitetindən istifadə edirlər.[9]
