1760-cı ildə fransız zooloqu Matüren-Jak Brisson özünün "Ornithologie" əsərində adi çığırıq quşunun təsvirini daxil etmişdir. O, bu növü yanlışlıqla Filippində toplanmış hesab edərək fransızca "Le merle des Philippines" və latınca "Merula Philippensis" adlandırmışdır.[4] Brissonun latınca adları binomial sistemə uyğun deyil və "Beynəlxalq Zooloji Nomenklatura Komissiyası" tərəfindən tanınmır.[5]
