Valideynlərinin Britaniyada doğulan ilk övladı idi. Belə ki, ailəsi alman əsilli olsa da, babasının 1714-cü ildə Böyük Britaniya və İrlandiya kralı olmasıyla ailə Britaniyaya köçmüşdü.
