İzah Drawing of a bust of Lycurgus, the legendary lawgiver of ancient Sparta (late ninth century BC), from Great Men and Famous Women (1894). The drawing is based on the statue known as the "So-called Lycurgus or Lysias" in the Vatican Museums, although its identification with Lycurgus or Lysias is a modern one; the statue itself is unlabeled.
